1. Shake a thermometer down the night before and put it on your nightstand beside your bed.

2. In the morning when you wake up, do not get up or even go to the bathroom before you take your temperature under your arm.

3. If your temperature is under 97.3, you need thyrooid supplementation. I take "Thyrostim". Your health food store clerks will be able to help you as to what natural products to take.

4. I would suggest that you repeat this test about three mornings (and never during a woman's period as her temperature is higher then).

NOTE: The hospital blood tests for low thyroid are mostly inaccurate, so I wouldn't even waste my money to be checked. You have to be nearly dead to get a medical doctor to prescribe thyroid medication any more. If your doctor will listen to you about this underarm temp. test, ask him if he will give you a prescription for thyroid medication. If he needs to see a reference, there is a book called, "Hope for Hypoglycemia" by Broda Barnes, M.D. that I like very much. The following information is taken from the book, GUESS WHAT CAME TO DINNER by Anne Marie Gittleman. It was one of the BEST books that I ever read. In fact I read it twice in the same weekend. (Note that it is available quite cheaply on www.half.com)

This book says that 65% of Americans have parasites. I had them also, and have been on two parasite cleanses. I can tell you that there is very little discomfort in the cleanses. You can purchase them at a health food store. I bought my last one from an infomercial, and can give you the 1-800 number via e-mail if you want it.

Note that Chapter One and the references in the back of this book say that Chronic Fatigue is often caused by parasites, as is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. One of the signs of parasites is hemorrhoids. The Nature's Biotics for Candida also kills parasites. If you need that information from me, please request it.

________________________________________________________ ARE PARASITES YOUR PROBLEM?

Ultimately, each of us is responsible for our own health, and no where is this seen more dramatically than in the case of parasites. Parasitic infection remains a neglected disease. Physicians hardly ever suspect parasites as a current American health problem and, therefore, rarely ask for a comprehensive travel and lifestyle history. Without this kind of history, parasites can be easily missed because their symptoms mimic a host of diseases. As mentioned in Chapter One, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue may be cases of giardia. Persistent allergy is often a case of roundworm infection, while pinworms may be at the bottom of your child's hyperactivity. So a comprehensive personal history emphasizing the primary underlying cause of illness is necessary.

The questionnaire here is a lifestyle checklist designed to highlight the major avenues by which parasites are transmitted into the human body and to identify symptoms that commonly occur in parasite-based illness. This questionnaire can help you, along with your doctor, to assess your parasite risk. This basic questionnaire was first developed while I was working at an environmental detoxification center in San Diego, where parasitic screening was a standard part of total medical testing. Since so many patients were showing positive stool samples and couldn't understand why, the questionnaire helped them trace their sources of infection and pinpoint exactly how, when, and where they may have acquired parasites. Connecting the dates of symptom onset to a trip overseas or a new family pet can provide substantial clues for further health investigation.

Naturally, the more items you check off in this questionnaire, the greater the chances are that your health problems are parasite- connected. But remember, it may take only one exposure to tainted food, water, or the bite of an infected mosquito for infection to take place if your resistance is low.

If you answered "yes" to more than forty items, you are at high risk for parasite infection. If you answered "yes" to thirty items, your risk for parasite infection is moderate. If you answered "yes" to twenty items, you are at risk. If you are not exhibiting any overt symptoms now, remember that many parasitic infections can be dormant and then spring to life when you least expect them. Be aware that symptoms that come and go may still point to an underlying parasitic infection because of reproductive cycles. The various developmental stages of parasites often produce a variety of metabolic toxins and mechanical irritations in several areas of the body--for example, pinworms can stimulate asthmatic attacks because of their movement into the upper respiratory tract.
